The glossary explains abbreviations and terms used in the WARP Toolbox.
| Advisory |
An Advisory is a message which provides the recipient with data on a current vulnerability and may include details on security patches and other solutions. The object of an Advisory is to raise the awareness of a particular security issue. |
| WARP Affiliate |
An organisation which offers WARP related services as part of the WARP programme but does not wish to brand itself as a WARP, e.g. a CERT. |
| WARP Associate |
An organisation providing WARP related services to other WARPs, e.g. a vendor that delivers notifications relating to their products to WARPs who may then forward them to their WARP members. |

Computer Emergency Response Team (trademarked by CERT/CC) |
| CPNI |
Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure |
| CNI |
Critical National Infrastructure. |
| CSIRT |
Computer Security Incident Response Team (another name for a CERT) |
| EA |
Electronic Attack - as opposed to Physical Attack. |
Example document |
A document in the WARP Toolbox that can be downloaded and customised, e.g. an outline security policy and service definitions. |
| FWA |
Filtered Warnings Application - software which supports the WARP Filtered Warning Service. |

Downloadable checklists and recommendations. |
| ICT |
Information and Communications Technology. |
| Member (WARP member) |
An organisation that belongs to a WARP, or an individual member. |
| NDA |
Non Disclosure Agreement. |
| News item |
A type of Notification in FWA used to disseminate background information, good practice and administrative issues. |
| NISCC |
National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre - now part of CPNI from 1 February 2007 |
| Notification |
A notification is any message in any form which is generated from the Filtered Warnings Application (FWA) software. For example, this could be a Warning, an Advisory or a News item. |
| NSAC |
National Security Advice Centre - now part of CPNI from 1 February 2007 |
| Operator (WARP operator) |
The day-to-day staff running the WARP services and operations and main contact with the WARP's members. |
| Provider (WARP provider) |
The organisation which is responsible for establishing and managing the WARP and for its governance. |
| Publications |
Documents which can be downloaded from the WARP Toolbox and used without any changes. Examples are marketing brochures and Powerpoint presentations. |
Reference documents |
Documents from the WARP Toolbox such as manuals, reports and case studies, e.g. software installation guides and an example of a requirements analysis process. |

| Severity |
The severity field in the Filtered Warnings Application allows a WARP operator to choose High, Medium and Low severity for a Warning or Advisory. The interpretation of each level is left to the WARP operator as it will depend on the community being served. |

Secure Socket Layer. |
| UNIRAS |
The UK government CERT, providing Warnings and Advisories to government departments and commercial organisations who are part of the CNI. UNIRAS is part of CPNI. |
| User (WARP user) |
An individual WARP member who is authorised to access the WARP services. |
| Warning |
A Warning is a message which encourages the recipient to act upon the data contained within it. It supplies information on a very real threat requiring immediate attention and members would be unwise to ignore it. |
