FWA Software and WARP MSP Software
WARP Managed Service Platform (WARP MSP) software
In the early days of the WARP project, support from Microsoft enabled the development of an application to support the Filtered Warnings WARP service. This product evolved over time to become a sophisticated system that supports the requirements of Filtered Warnings very well, but does not directly help with Advice Brokering and Trusted Sharing. The Filtered Warnings Application (FWA), as it is known, also requires a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server system on which to run, something that can be difficult for potential WARP communities to implement quickly.
In order to allow more WARP communities to get off the ground quickly, CPNI has created a hosted platform that integrates the latest version of FWA with Microsoft Sharepoint 2007. The combined platform provides features that support all three of the WARP services in a single web based environment. In addition some content is provided, in the form of a feed of advisories from CSIRTUK, and some good practice information sourced from CPNI, BERR, CESG and the Information Commissioner’s Office. New WARPs wishing to benefit from the WARP M anaged Service Platform can trial the system within their prospective community, allowing the full benefits of a WARP trusted community to be quickly realized. The following guide describes the features of the WARP MSP.

FWA Software
A software package called the Filtered Warnings Application (FWA) has been produced that can be deployed by WARPs to assist in the operation of the Filtered Warnings service. The user interface of the Filtered Warnings Application is very simple for WARP members, who complete and maintain their subscription profiles, and for WARP operators, who create the warnings and advisories. The subscription lists are provided as “tick-lists” in a tree structure which enables the member to easily select a whole branch or individual items - as shown.

The application provides a default tick-list, complete with entries found to be useful to other WARPs. The subscription tree can easily be modified to include any categories, to reflect the needs of each WARP community.
To view a short movie showing how easy it is to select the information using the subscription tree, click below.
Introduction to subscription tree
The Filtered Warnings Application (FWA) software is only available to registered WARPs (i.e. approved by CPNI under the WARP registration process) who have paid the appropriate fee and agreed to the end user software licence agreement. To obtain the software and licence key please contact
FWA General information
This document describes the format used to represent notifications within FWA, and may be useful to those that wish to inteface data feeds with the application. A full API that allows integration with the FWA peer-to-peer interface is available on request, please contact for further details.
Filtered Warnings Application - Data Fields (V1.0 October 2006)
It is a good idea to organise a controlled trial of all the WARP services prior to announcing the system is live. The following document describes a suitable trial plan for a WARP deploying the Filtered Warnings Application, but the phased approach described could be applied to any WARP service.

FWA download and support
An external development company, Avius Experience, provide a download facility for the FWA software and a site to collect together the FWA guidance material (Video clips, Handbook etc). This is presently only available to registered WARPs using the FWA software. The company is also offering a support contract to WARPs using FWA. For futher details contact NB. CPNI do not favour one supplier over another and encourage other suppliers who may want to support FWA to offer similar services.
At the time of writing, FWA v4.1 is still being used by some WARPs identified as being FWA operational in the WARP register, with FWA v5.0 recently being released. However some have now moved over to FWA v5.0 and over time it is expected that all WARPs will move over to FWA v5.0/v5.1.
FWA v4.1
As this is now an end of life version of FWA, all documentation has been removed from this site.
FWA v5.0 - release February 2007
FWA V5.0 is an important step in the development of FWA as it reduces the cost of ownership considerably by providing the capability to run multiple instances of FWA on the same PC operating system (Windows Server 2003) while at the same time being compatible with the Microsoft SQL Server free edition (Express). The system requirements for FWA v5.0 are described in the following document.

FWA v5.1 - release May 2007
This FWA v5.1 release further improves the functionality of FWA v5.0 with features such as an RSS feed, PDF attachments, tree mapping in peer to peer and an authentication API to help integrate FWA with other applications. This is available as a free upgrade to v5.0.
To better understand the service which uses this software, look in the Filtered Warnings Service page in the WARP Toolbox.
