WARP Newsletter 6 - February (2) 2007

WARPLOG Issue 6 - February 2007

This second newsletter in February 2007 provides an update to some exciting developments.

WARP Trust

As mentioned in the last Newsletter, a significant development for the WARP programme is that we are embarking on the first stage of developing an independent ‘WARP Trust’. A competition has been carried out by the DTI to identify the most suitable contractor to take forward this work and the successful bidder is LanditD (John Harrison) working closely with Tom Wills-Sandford from Intellect (www.intellectuk.org). This WARP Trust project team will develop a fully worked proposal for the new Trust by mid-2007 with the aim of securing further identified funding to establish and run the Trust on a viable commercial (but non-profit-making) basis. This development phase will lead to an independent body managing the WARP programme, driven by its members, with continuing support from CPNI, as well as other appropriate government involvement.

This is a very exciting development, and interested parties will have an excellent opportunity to explore and discuss the issues at the Annual WARPs Forum in Leeds on 13 March 2007. Over the coming months a wide range of stakeholders will be consulted, including registered WARPs, government departments and potential sponsors and if you would like to take part in this consultation, please register your interest at enquiries@warp.gov.uk with a subject heading of 'WARP Trust'.

WARP Forum

A full agenda and an invitation to the Annual WARPs Forum in Leeds on 13 March accompanies this Newsletter. Those who want to attend and have not already registered should do so now as places are limited and they are disappearing fast! This year we will again have international speakers and a wide range of delegates, and our Keynote Speaker is Stuart Okin who has supported the WARP programme since its early days when he was Chief Security Officer for Microsoft UK, when he generously developed the first Filtered Warnings Application software. He is now a Partner at Accenture, but still maintains an active interest in the programme, so this is a chance to hear a big business perspective on WARPs and their future.

FWA v5.0 Release

The multi-instance version of FWA, called v5.0 has now been extensively tested and is available for purchase by registered WARPs at the Avius site (www.aviusexperience.com/fwainfo.php) where further details are provided. You can also see the FWA Software toolbox section (www.warp.gov.uk/Index/indexfwasoftware.htm) for more details of FWA v5.0. Work is also commencing to further improve the functionality of FWA v5.0 with features such as an RSS feed, PDF attachments, tree mapping in peer to peer and an authentication API to help integrate FWA with other applications. When complete, this will be released as FWA v5.1 and will be available as a free upgrade to v5.0.
