WARP Latest News (December 2006)

The following news items were posted in December 2006:

  • A recent ENISA workshop in Brussels provided an excellent platform for SKWARP to talk about operating a WARP. The event placed WARPs alongside CERT initiatives, speakers from CERT-CC and other international CERTs. The WARP model came across very favourably as being low-cost and versatile.

  • The WARP model is currently being trialled in the Netherlands; the FWA software and WARP model are being explored in New Zealand, and presentations about WARPs were specifically requested by the organisers of recent Information Security conferences in Poland and Lithuania.

  • Meanwhile closer to home, the new WMCWARP will have a high profile launch in November in Wolverhampton, and the ANSWARP will be formally launched by ANITE in Slough. The DSWARP is attracting lots of attention in the SW region, and may well inspire others there. The WMCWARP for local government is designed to be the first of a cluster of new WARPs in that region. Meanwhile, there is a hiatus in the North-East as ETR2A has folded, and the NEGWARP and NECWARP have found themselves homeless. No doubt they will re-emerge soon, once a new champion can be found.

  • The long awaited Version 5.0 of the FWA software is very nearly ready. This will include the very desirable feature of supporting more than one WARP community on the same server, amongst other things. Our new partner on FWA development Avius Experience can provide more details at

  • As the Annual WARPs Forum draws closer (13 March 2007), we will soon be asking for ‘volunteers’ to present and contribute. Always a good idea to volunteer first, so suggestions on what you want to hear about, and what you’d like to speak about, will be very welcome.

More details on all of these topics can be or will be found in the latest Newsletter page.
