WARP News (December 2004)
Welcome to the third release of the WARP Toolbox (December 2004), if you wish to view previous news from the Toolbox visit News archive. The following news items provide an update on the progress of the WARP programme:
-
There are now six WARPs who have signed up to the WARP Code of Practice and have been approved by NISCC. These include three in Local Government, a Genealogy WARP within the voluntary sector, a Security Consultants WARP and a Home User WARP - see the WARP Register for details.
-
NISCC are supporting the National Local Authority WARP (NLAWARP) project funded by ODPM/I&DeA, and managed by London Connects, to create a framework of WARPs across Local Authorities in England - see their site for details.
-
Numerous enquiries are being received by NISCC across the public and private sector about setting up or wanting to join a WARP. The Filtered Warnings Application (FWA) software in particular has received a lot of attention and interest.
-
NISCC are funding the further development of the FWA software (v 4.0) to provide additional features such as 'peer to peer' working to help WARPs to share warnings and advisories and other information with other WARPs. Additional delivery options such as SMS, and additional security features such as PGP and email signing/encryption are also being implemented.
-
NISCC are exploring the feasibility of using the FWA for some of its existing services, including UNIRAS briefings and alerts.
