WARP News (Aug 2004)
Welcome to the second release of the WARP Toolbox (August 2004), where you will note that the images and branding have been changed slightly to reflect the new NISCC branding. The following news items provide an update on the progress of the WARP programme:
- WARPs, the Toolbox and the new Filtered Warning Application software have stimulated a considerable interest in both the private and public sectors, from which many interesting opportunities are beginning to emerge. The latest edition of the NISCC Quarterly has a feature on WARPs, which may be downloaded as shown below:
NISCC quarterly April - June 2004 (3.6 Mb)
This features the making of a film about WARPs and Local Government. This WARP movie may be accessed within the Toolbox under the Marketing section.
-
WARPs will also feature on the agenda of the Govcert.nl Symposium in the Hague during August 2004, where they will be included in a workshop entitled 'How to improve information security protection in communities by a Warning, Advice and Reporting Point (WARP).
- It has been the cause of some discussion within the WARP community(s) why some people are happy to share information and others exhibit a degree of reluctance. If the human aspects of information sharing were better understood, NISCC would be in a position to provide the appropriate advice from within the Toolbox to help in the creation of WARPs. With this in mind, NISCC are supporting an MSc research project on the Psychology of Information Sharing, with a deliverable that will be included in the Toolbox.
What's new in the Toolbox
The main additions to the Toolbox in this second release are as follows:
-
A three step WARP registration process has been included within the Business case section of the Toolbox. This includes the WARP Code of Practice which describes the benefits, responsibilities and governance associated with WARP membership. All WARPs will be expected to adhere to these codes of practice, since the agreement to abide by them forms the principal requirement for formal WARP registration.
-
The Filtered Warning Application software is now available to registered WARPs.
-
The Toolbox contains a number of movie files (MS.wmv) that shows the Filtered Warnings Application software in operation. These files record both the user and the WARP operator’s experiences, which in turn may be used in WARP(s) marketing and as training videos.
-
Several new articles have been added to the Marketing section of the Toolbox, together with an increased range of WARP and WARP Toolbox logos, including some with animation as shown on the Toolbox homepage.
